Overthinking…

You are in a meeting. A colleague makes a point. You want to jump in and add your point. You lean forward. And then you stop – you review what you want to say. You want to make your point just right. And then, just as you’re ready to jump in, the conversation has moved on – you’ve lost your moment.
If you are tired of missing your moments, here’s a mindset shift that will make a huge difference. You have to recognize that your audience is not listening to every word. Your audience is not taking a photograph of your words. Your audience is getting an impression of your idea. Researchers have demonstrated this impressionistic quality. They read sentences with missing words to listeners. When asked to identify what words were missing, 95% of the listeners had not noticed that any words were missing.
So next time you are in a meeting and an idea pops into your head, jump in and say it. Concentrate on getting your idea across in the moment – don’t overthink. Just go.
If you want tools to help you instantly organize your thoughts so that you’re ready to jump in with clarity and confidence in the moment, I invite you to set up a complimentary 30-minute consultation: https://lnkd.in/dQ3AS2KV
