Tell Me About Yourself

Why do you hate that question? Too vague? Too personal?

One of the biggest reasons for your gut-punch reaction is that you don’t know how to start.

Here’s a strategy that works:

Begin with a headline. You have to articulate a headline that defines who you are – head and heart. Here’s a wonderful example of a headline from Mauro Porcini, 13-year CMO for PepsiCo from his speech to a crowd of young people at the United Nations General Assembly:

“I have been a designer professionally for the past 30 years. I have been a designer, in my heart for much longer.”

What a terrific example – head and heart.

So, think of your headline – what headline sums you up?

Remember, you want to have a headline – head and heart.
