Fear.
Fear. Fear is in the air. You can feel it.
Fear. Fear is on faces. You can see it.
How do you communicate confidence in these times of fear – authentically?
Here is step one:
Focus on balance.
If you are in a live meeting, you can’t perch on the podium – you’ll be off-balance- you’ll look weak.
If you pace nonstop – you’ll look nervous.
You have to stand still and move. When you stand still you command attention – you project authority. When you move strategically – walking across the room at key moments – taking a few steps on transition points – you’ll add punctuation to your ideas, breathing space for your audience. You increase your audience engagement.
So remember, stand with both feet on the ground and move strategically – balance.
When you are sitting or in a virtual meeting, you have to sit still and move strategically.
When you bob around on your chair, you look wobbly – insecure. When you shift to scratch the itch, you look uncomfortable. When you lean back in your chair, you look laid-back.
When you move strategically, you gesture to add emphasis and to illustrate your ideas. You project power -you’re in control.
